Job Description:
Director of Campus Safety is responsible for the operations of the University’s Security and Safety Department which operates on a 24/7 basis. This will include supervision of physical security operations, vehicle registration and parking enforcement. The Director develops, administers, and evaluates all safety and security functions, programs, and policies. These policies must be in compliance with all applicable state or community laws and/or regulations.
This position also requires an operational awareness of best practices and national trends related to campus safety/security and legal issues impacting higher education.
The Director proactively addresses safety and security concerns, implements action plans, and ensures related policies are consistently enforced. The Director will also ensure regular fire, safety, and security inspections are conducted within all University facilities; conducts investigations. In addition, the Director provides administrative and operational guidance for a departmental staff, including dispatch, and compliance personnel. The Director will work closely with local emergency services.

Administrative
• Assists local fire and law enforcement personnel during on campus emergencies.
• Available for 24/7 on call response
• Ensures subordinates are present and accounted for by the maintenance of work schedules.
• Provides quality leadership through example.
• Ensures all Patrol and Dispatch shifts are filled for 24/7 operations.
• Responsible to ensure the Office of Campus Safety website is maintained.
• Responsible to ensure Campus Safety employees follow university policies.
• Responsible to provide supervision and guidance for subordinates to complete operational assignments.
• Ensures the Office of Campus Safety operates within budget.
• Write new policies and procedures as they may be necessary
Fire Safety
• Ensures reoccurring inspections of all campus facilities are in compliance with fire protection Codes Liaison between the University and local emergency services regarding any necessary response to the campus.
Occupational Safety
• May be called upon to assists in injury/accident investigation and any subsequent follow up for the prevention of future injury/accident.
• Ensures reoccurring inspections of all campus facilities
Emergency Management
• Assists local fire and law enforcement personnel during on campus emergencies.
• Capable of acting as an Incident Commander during emergencies.
• Supervises the creation/maintenance of first responder books for all campus buildings. These will include 3D floor plans, hazmat storage areas, and all fire safety equipment contained within these buildings.
• Ensures the University maintains working relationships with local, community, and state emergency services through attending training and planning meetings.
• Plans and conducts emergency exercises and recommends improvements for hazard mitigation resulting from these exercises.
• Supervises the creation/maintenance of a campus wide hazard analysis.
• Represents the University in the Five Towers Community.
• Responsible for the management of the University’s Emergency Alert System.
• Works with local emergency services and University administration to create and maintain the Emergency Operation Plan (EOP) for IE University.
