Role description Key responsibilities
The Technical Manager is the owner of the technical aspects of a group of projects. Reporting to the Development Director and liaising with the Project Manager or Product owner in charge of any given project, the Technical Manager is co-responsible with other Technical Managers and Technical Leads of being successful on meeting project delivery milestones and engineering expectations regarding scope and quality. Delivery on time is paramount, so the Technical Manager needs to create an environment where shared teams can do agile and assess and act on any situation with the objective of compliance with the delivery plan.
Evangelizes: researches, creates proofs of concept and introduces new technologies to the team
Evolves: evolves the architecture to support future requirements and defines its SLAs
Manages: manages the team members’ career, expectations, performance and level of happiness
Defines: defines the right processes for the team’s maturity level, balancing agility and discipline
Multiple Teams: makes an impact not only on the whole team but also on other teams
Opportunities Support: Works closely with Presales department to make offers and answer tenders
Direct responsible for the delivery of a group of projects. Including:
Effective Team Management based on skills, project knowledge and career planning.
Effective suppliers’ management including managing offshore teams.
Appropriately plan capacity and escalate capacity needs that go beyond what has been allocated for his projects to both the Engineering Director and the Project Manager or Product Owner.
Deliver at both scope and time, or scale otherwise. Provide the software development effort estimates to the Project Manager or Product Owner.
Identify and escalate technical risks to the Project Manager.
Responsible for the project methodology implementation, ensuring it is properly followed according to the departmental guidelines:
Perform and act upon project retrospectives (post-mortems)
Ensure that project and team methodologies are compatible.
Gather impediment reporting from Team Leads and provide solutions for project-related ones.
Implementation of project-level post-mortem improvements.
